আমি যেখানেই যাই ছোটো পাঠকদের জন্য কিছু মনে করে ছবি স্মৃতি নিয়ে আসি। এই যেমন আকিমের চরিত্রটি একটি দ্বীপে চলে যাচ্ছে। এই দ্বীপ আসলে কোরাপুটের বালিমেলা অঞ্চল। ওড়িশা আর অন্ধ্রের সীমান্তে একটা পরিত্যক্ত অঞ্চল। এখানে জল আসায় এখানকার আদিবাসীরা আটকে গেছিল তবু তারা কোথাও যায়নি। আমি চেয়েছিলাম এই নতুন জায়গাটাকে ভারতবর্ষের মানুষ জানুক। আর একটা ব্যাপার আমি প্রকৃতিকে আমার লেখায় খুব গভীর ভাবে আনি। আমি মনে করি প্রকৃতি আর মানুষকে একসঙ্গে না দেখলে দেখা হয় না। 

I am not a person who actively plots short stories. I try to write with empathy, with the strength of my anger, and I don't actively try to bring it to the surface, but sometimes it spills over. I have seen life from many angles, and apart from the trips for work,
I travel a lot on my own too. I have travelled through the villages of Orissa, Jharkhand and I think that some of their stories need to be documented.
I am very actively Indian in my thinking and my travels have influenced me a lot. I think there is no way of sitting at a desk and writing. I need to meet people, I strongly connect to them, and that is how I write.

There were editors in Calcutta who published me without knowing me or having seen my face ever. So that probably gave me a great deal of freedom because I was out of ‘civilisation’ and it left me free and I had nothing to achieve through writing. That is what made me free from bondage. Writing is one thing in my life from where I have no (material) expectation.
